Where to get a free-e-mail account

There are 3 kinds of free e-mail accounts:

New: Free statistics for your site!

a 'regular' account

You can retrieve your e-mail in a regular e-mail program.
Ideal if you don't have an e-mail account with an internet service provider.

a 'forwarding' account

The mail sent to this account will be forwarded to your regular e-mail account. You can also decide not to forward the mail and set up a second e-mail program which only uses this account.

We also have a short listing of ethnic accounts

a 'web based' account

You can retrieve your mail on the web site of the company offering this service.
The advantages of this system are:

  1. even if you don't have your own dial up account but you'd like to have an e-mail address, you can arrange one this way
  2. wherever you are when you log in, you're able to retrieve your mail without having to enter all your POP, SMTP etc. info in an e-mail program.

The disadvantages: those pages are mostly slow and you have to be online to read and respond to mail.

Kewl! You can check your pop3 mail online with twigger COM - NL - BE - UK - DE - FR - SE - FI - DK - NO(rway)!

regular e-mail account

coolmail.com
Your address will be @coolmail.com

HotPOP
Your address will be @HotPOP.com, @ToughGuy.net, @PunkAss.com, @BonBon.net, @Phreaker.net, @SexMagnet.com or @GameBox.net
This can also be used as a forwarding account.

@less
A new curiosity. The say that JohnDoe4097@mail.myisp.net becomes JohnDoe. 'No matter what ISP or e-mail service, that's all you'll need anywhere.'
This last sentence is not entirely true but hey, this might be a good idea! Worst thing that can happen is that you'll have an @atless.net address.

Internet Wizadry
You can either use their POP server a use it as web based mail. 1 Mb max.

SoftHome
Address will be @SoftHome.net

SubDimension
Free anonymous e-mail with zero-tolarance policy for spam.

Crosswinds
They promise that e-mail and personal web pages will always be free and unlimited.

forwarding accounts

iname iName
I've been using this service for many years now, never had any problem! Because iName has been around for a while now, they are running out of fun addresses.

AltaVista iName You'd probably better go to Altavista's free mail service which they provide in collaboration with iName. Get an address like: @altavista.net, @iname.com, @cheerful.com, @cyberdude.com, @cybergal.com, @eathling.net, etc.
Read email online, forward messages, or use your email program -
they have 300 names to choose from.

SNAP! - email.com
Another iName service
Your address will be whatyouthinkof@email.com

Bigfoot (go to e-mail tools)
I have no idea about the quality of their service but Bigfoot also has been around for a while.

Netforward
Looks like a plain and clean forwarding service.

beer.com
Cool address for the beer lovers amongst us. @beer.com

web based accounts

It is amazing how many companies provide this service! I will only list a couple. Visit the free web based e-mail page at dmoz.org for more.

Hotmail hotmail

The most popular service. About 40 million people use '@hotmail.com' accounts.
Unfortunately some hotmail users are spammers, discrediting hotmail users on the internet.

Flairmail
They have 700 domains to choose from!

My own e-mail
About 200 domains to choose from!

Juno
Another popular one with over 5 million users.

Excite
