Where to get free web site statistics

There are several kinds of free statistics. Counters | Buttons & Banners | Invisible stats

Statistics of your page will tell you how often the page is requested per hour or day plus the average ammount of requests your page gets, wich browsers / operating systems / screen resolutions are being used.
Better yet are the services that offer 'referral stats', they track where your visitors are comming from, how they found your site.

Since there are a lot of companies offering free statistics we personally prefer free statistics that will only display a button on their site.
Banners are mostly large and animated, wich can be very irritating.

Expect to have to pay for statistics that will not be visible to your visitors.
Here we get to one of the reasons why statistic services are being offered for free. The main reason is that you will see the advertisements on the statistics page. (With banners advertisements may be on your own page.) The other reason is that if you are satisfied with the free service but want to switch to invisible stats so your visitors will not be able to see them, you will probably stay with the same company.

A counter does nothing but count the number of times your page is requested. This does not provide any statistic information but many people like to have a counter on their page.
You should check first if your provider or design program offers this service. Otherwise you can use the free service of on of these companies.
